Hofmann's Potion (2002)

"Discovered in 1943 by Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann, D-lysergic acid diethylamide (or LSD) was first used by researchers as a powerful tool to help unlock the mysteries of the human mind. It was considered an effective tool to treat alcoholism and drug addiction; it was also used to better understand the nature of schizophrenia and other mental illnesses. (Much of that pioneering research was done by a team of researchers based in Saskatchewan.) While researchers were determining the medical benefits of LSD, others — like Aldous Huxley and Timothy Leary— promoted the drug as a powerful tool for self-understanding." -documentarychannel.ca

Fascinating documentary. As a practitioner of meditation and a person who was used a wide array of mind altering drugs (in the past) I would have to say the insights gained during such experiences are useful but fleeting. A seeker of insight will eventually move on. It would be difficult to fully integrate a life changing epiphany (or whatever) gained during a state of altered consciousness into a workable insight in "normal" consciousness with any permanancy.

Having gone through the 60's and 7o's and experimented with these drugs , I found the film very enlightening.

An insightful documentary. I had been long aware of Timothy Leary and now realize the root of the subject. Very incredible that the substance was used so widely by the US government and psychiatric institutes as well as personally by medical personnel. It must have open something in the mind's eye. This film attributes the major social/political movements in the 1960s and 1970s to the substance. But also touches on the US Government and medical world's use for it as well.
