The Man Who Planted Trees (1987)
(L'Homme qui plantait des arbres)

"The Man Who Planted Trees tells the story of a solitary sheperd who patiently plants and nurtures a forest of thousands of trees, single-handedly transforming his arid surroundings into a thriving oasis. Undeterred by two World Wars, and without any thought of personal reward, the sheperd tirelessly sows his seeds and acorns with the greatest care. As if by magic, a landscape that seemed condemned grows green again. A film of great beauty and hope, this story is a remarkable parable for all ages and an inspiring testament to the power of one person." -amazon.com

This movie was short and sweet. Absolutely moving, and its characters portrayed so realistically, that at first Elzeard Bouffier seems like a true person with a hint of godly power. I feel lucky being able to watch such a wonderful clip. It shows us that mankind hasn't forgotten about what's truly important- Mother Nature.

This movie returns me to the things that matter. Not the rush of daily life, the temporary pleasures. Peace, doing something positive. It was very calming, and an eternal theme. Life blooming. Thank you for putting it online!!

..being blessed as i watched it some fifteen years ago on tv,i suddenly seeked for it last year into the modern web, happily discovering it in a torrent site..took me weeks to download..and now this.A poem for one's eyes and soul.just a reminder of how things would be like, should many of us follow this hidden, inner call to reach for the ultimate goal:Peace within ..and as a reward..a trully better place to live.a paradise here , on Mother Earth.right here, right now..

Found the movie very calming and reassuring of the role of trees, pristine meadows, water, clean air, nature as a whole in supporting humans and all life in this planet; a belief that lies deep in my heart. For many years when living in Riverside, CA, together with my husband and kids we planted a tree on mother's day, until we moved to Santa Cruz County, the land of the redwoods. Now, I have a small business--Sustainable Developent & Planning, and my passion continues to be inspiring people to make sustainable decisions, decisions that are in line with the earth, thus good for humanity. What a great film! Thank you for the opportunity. Patrizia

How beautiful and inspiring this film/story as it weaves the tale of a selfless individual who responds to an inward prompting. Without expecting recognition or reward, the shepherd/beekeeper finds satisfaction in fulfilling this God-given desire to transform his world as he finds purpose and healing from his own loss. I am reminded that no task is too big if we tackle it with patience and commitment and if we choose to respond to pain/loss by making the most of opportunities to bring blessing through the work of our hands. Loved the animation/artwork as well.
