this film has a great plot. however, it is hampered by a low budget and pedestrian direction. the movie as it is makes one wonder what if a true artist of a director such as sergio leone or sam peckinpah or walter hill in his prime had of been behind the helm. it could have also used much, much sharper direction and editing. of chuck conners's group, only conners and aron kincaid can act or deliver their lines properly. ceasar romero and the mexican military leaders for both sides come off much, much better in the acting department. the music is great. evidently several of the cast members were musicians and non-actors who were involved in the score. they should have stuck to the music. in several ways this film is a variation on the magnificent 7. as opposed to say the glass key, yo jimbo, a fistful of dollars, miller's crossing, blue iguana or walter hill's last man standing where characters play both ends against the middle, these characters are between a rock and a hard place.
