Provoked: A True Story (2006)

"Provoked is the true story of Kiranjit Ahluwalia, a Punjabi woman who moved to London after her marriage with Deepak Ahluwalia. Her husband seemed caring at first but then began to beat her up. He started drinking a lot and sleeping around with other women. he also subjected her to spousal rape. After ten years and having two children with him, out of fear, she sets him on fire while he is sleeping, two hours after another scene of domestic violence. He succumbs to the injuries ans she is sentenced to prison for life for premeditated murder. However the Southall Black Sisters, an NGO which fights against domestic violence helps her get justice. And after spending 3 1/2 years in jail, she is set free and reunited with her two children." -imdb.com

A good film because it highlights injustice of women within the law. An interesting point was when k had to hand over her jewellery the steel bangle in not jewellery as such but a symbol of K religion and taking it off meant much to K. It was good to see that cultural boundaries were transcended by empathy and the need of people to relate. It was also interesting to see a mother's love for her son blinding her to what was true. How emotions like love and hate effect out thinking.

this was the best movie i have seen in awhlie about this sort of thing and i would reconmend this movie to others

This has to be one of the best movies that I have seen. It was a sad yet happy true story of a real woman. I really hope that this movie helps many others who may be victims of domestic violence.
