Rashômon (1950)

"In ancient Japan, a woman is raped and her husband killed. The film gives us four viewpoints of the incident - one for each defendant - each revealing a little more detail. Which version, if any, is the real truth about what happened?" -imdb.com

Akutagawa's two short stories(rashomon & yabu no naka) express the real human feelings. I see that quality in this film too. In my opinion, Akira Kurasowa had rendered a great service to the Japanese Literature.

Kurosawa's films are dense with humanity. Films like Ikiru (to live) are heart wrenching. Watch them all.

partly, it's a misrepresentation of women. though back in the 1950's such film could be considered a breakthrough artistically, it still works in the framework of women - eve notion that reflects the prevalent thinking of a patriarchal society
