The Tank Man (2004)
"Documentary about the lone man who stood before the tanks entering Tiananmen Square during the June 1989 pro-democracy demonstrations. He is then pulled back into the crowd, either by friends, fellow demonstrators or government forces - no one knows for sure. And no one knows who he was, to this day." -amazon.com
I found it an interesting correlation. However, some things don't change I guess. Government corruption, sweat shops, slave labor, corrupt managers and labor bosses and lack of human rights/human services still persist.
I visited Beijing just recently, in 2005 and their sociio/political landscape had changed in the urban areas and there is quickly spreading class disenfranchisement. Most Chinese people will say they are free to talk about anything there, BUT when I was in Beijing, I could see worried eyes when subjects such as human rights and the Beijing Massacre were brought up by Westerners like me.
Shame on all the companies mentioned in this doc.
And shame on us consumers, for knowing these things and blithely continuing to buy and use their products without at least sending them a message through a boycott. There are war crimes tribunals that deal with man's inhumanity to man, I think it is time we also have business crime tribunals that deal with corporation's inhumanity to mankind.
The Tank Man is the unsung hero and symbol for all time and all nations. Each year on Remembrance days around the world, people living in the free world should remember The Tank Man and what he represents for China and the world. Our freedoms, privileges, and rights can also disappear over night. As you read this, these very things are being eroded or revoked, and we're told its being done for our own good. Beware of governments that think it knows best what is good for the people.
Please remember to remind politicians with your vote, that we are still living in a democracy and won't stand for them messing with democracy for their benefit. Power corrupts and ultimate power...well you know the rest.
